This is the most unprecedented election ever. It has captivated much attention because of the questionable rhetoric due to Donald Trump’s part or skepticism due to both Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton.

In regards to The Donald, I don’t believe anyone anticipated him to be President-Elect. Despite racist comments and actions in belittling Latinos and removing African Americans from his gatherings in addition to downplaying the recent police abuse against minorities, he is now leader-to-be of the free world. Despite the sexist language in demeaning woman who have thicker bodies, demeaning them in general or even the actions in groping and even stating that he can just “grab them by the pussy” because he is a celebrity, this is who we have chosen by parts of the Electoral College. Donald Trump cannot empathize with the middle class in any way shape or form as he was raised in a rich environment. He does not know the meaning of struggle. Mr. Trump has NO experience in foreign policy or in general governing. He has no clear agenda. Out of a combination of frustration and fear, voters have made their choice. You can argue that the racists came out the wood works and we never truly moved forward in this area or we just moved a few steps backward with racism, and women’s equal rights.

With that being said, I am a man with an open mind. I mean, In my 20s I bought one of Donald Trump’s books as a form of self-motivation. His business acumen is respected. He’s gone bankrupt with a plan to downplay his debts and come back stronger financially. That is something that must be valued. He holds a vast real estate empire. The theory that he has paid little to no taxes can be construed as business genius or as simply not paying his share into our society. Maybe his abilities as a business man can help our economy as he becomes president. His temperament can persuade congress to move forward with his policies. I simply hope that his travels and the public’s disapproval with his past and recent behavior helps him understand that he does not solely represent a few select of Americans, he represents us all – blacks, Latinos, women, etc. My hope is that his followers come to ease their anger and that racism does not publicize itself in a manner that creates ugly civil unrest throughout the country. Maybe, just maybe, he can ease the thoughts of some of his more angry voters and deny racism, sexism and hate all together.

On another hand, he can become a nuisance to congress with the same temperament and stubbornness. All we can do is hope it works out for each of us. We can hope that our society continues to improve as far as unemployment, economy, foreign relations, middle class financial growth, etc.

This election is also unprecedented in that we can no longer rely on poles. The poles showed Hillary Clinton leading in swing states and 4-6 points overall. It’s a new day and age and the poles are no longer reliable. Twitter and Facebook are forces in communications between politicians and all Americans. Is the electoral process broken? Is it effective? Donald Trump has won the votes to gain 270 based on the electoral college process but Hillary Clinton is winning (so far, not final) the popular votes by almost 200K. Most people believe it should be a matter of just having everyone in the nation vote and the total wins. If this was the case, Hillary Clinton would be our president. Unfortunately, it is not that easy.

Let me make one thing clear. I do not believe either are president material. I did NOT vote for Hillary Clinton. Yes, her actions are questionable. She flip flops on her stances, the e-mail server thing was fishy, and you just can’t trust her. But – she is the lesser evil in my opinion. I’d rather have a vastly experienced leader who has shown over the years to champion women’s rights and has been Bill Clinton’s backbone (one of the best economic years of presidency??) than a womanizer, a racist, a narcissist and a bullshitter. Then again, maybe the country needs a bullshitter or a hard nose business man? Here’s to hoping he truly changes his racist, sexist ideals and actually communicates this to his followers, those against him and the rest of the world. All we can is hope.

God bless us all…

When I first heard about the death of Trayvon Martin, I noticed that the immediate reactions were of racism and discrimination. A plethora of artists were paying tribute to Trayvon Martin by wearing hoodies in their videos. You see, Trayvon donned a hoody the night he was killed. The idea is that the wearing of the hoody as well as his African American nationality was the reason why he was shot. Those that believe Trayvon was attacked and murdered say that Zimmerman profiled him. I will present both sides of the argument and let you be the judge.

What happened?
Zimmerman has stated that while in his vehicle on a personal errand, he noticed Martin walking inside the community. Zimmerman called the Sanford Police Department to report Martin’s behavior as suspicious, stating “This guy looks like he’s up to no good, or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about” and “looking at all the houses”. According to a police report, “there is no indication that Trayvon Martin was involved in any criminal activity at the time of the encounter”. While still on the phone with the police dispatcher, Zimmerman left his vehicle. After the phone call concluded, there was a violent encounter between Martin and Zimmerman. The encounter ended with Zimmerman fatally shooting Martin once in the chest at close range.

Prosecutor

Attorneys for Martin’s family have accused Zimmerman of racially profiling Martin and shooting him “in cold blood.”

Zimmerman pursued Martin against the explicit instructions of the police dispatcher:
Dispatcher: “Are you following him?”
Zimmerman: “Yeah”
Dispatcher: “OK, we don’t need you to do that.”

Zimmerman was carrying a a 9 millimeter handgun. Martin was carrying a bag of Skittles and a can of iced tea.

Martin weighed 140 pounds. Zimmerman weighs 250 pounds.

Martin had no criminal record.

Zimmerman “was charged in July 2005 with resisting arrest with violence and battery on an officer. The charges appear to have been dropped.”

Defense

From the beginning, Zimmerman insisted he was a victim: Martin attacked him, then they tussled, he said. At one point, the teenager forced Zimmerman to the ground — his head hitting the pavement — and he cried out for help. It was then that Zimmerman, saying he had no other choice, shot Martin.

Doctors report shows Zimmerman was injured by Travon Martin. Martin autopsy shows brusing on knuckles showing he did beat up on Zimmerman.

Contrary to the media’s image of Martin as a typical teen, text messages written by him show that he was suspended from school for truancy, discussed obtaining firearms in detail, and admitted to handling marijuana.

Interestingly enough, Zimmerman is not only a minority, but the same kind that Martin was. Apparently, an old family photo shows that one of the man’s great grandfathers was Afro-Peruvian. Furthermore, for all of that talk about Zimmerman being a far-right racist lunatic, he is a registered Democrat.

Feel free to add any additional facts. I just took bits and pieces of what I know. Submit your verdict below and back it up with comments in the “Leave a Comment” section. Regardless, a life was taken. R.I.P. Trayvon Martin.
